Hi you all, builders of old empires, I failed to resist the temptation to share with you my newest housing block design. I am little scared to post it, you should know I am still noob in this game. I am still at the third mission from Middle kingdom, playing only at normal. I have no experience at higher difficulty or Cleopatra or writing in a forum . Use what you learn here at your own risk.
The goals of this block:
1.Be stable. My initial goal was limited into normal difficulty, but I manage to modify it to stay stable at VH too, I hope.
2.Be service efficient, have most people served by one water carrier, school, dentist ect.
3.Be space efficient, have most worker output per map square. (we are going for fancy residences and nothing less)
4.Deal with those entertainment intersectionsthe right way.
5.It should look as symmetric as possible and like a beautiful butterfly (some imaginations is required) I hope you will not notice, that one of the wings of the butterfly is bigger than the other.
First I will post the blocks for normal difficulty.North is upper left.

And here is the second version, 6 more houses at the corners.

Orientation matters big time. For these services to cover the whole block they need to be close to the + intersection in the middle of the butterfly withtheir north tile. This means all bigger buildings should be placed south from it whenever possible. If you have to place a 3x3 building on north site, it should be just next to the jugger, else it will cover only one wing of the butterfly. The pavilion should be placed with the dancing platform towards south, else dancers will ignore one of the longer street of the block. 2 bazaars are enough to sustain the block, if granaries are really close to them, still, it will take long time before they evolve all the houses. I recommend placing 4 bazaars, (one more above the water supply and one between the tax collector and the school) and replace them after the rest of the houses evolve. Also look at how the firemen patrol the block, if they chase each other closely, delete one firehouse and replace it right way. There is enough desirability for your other houses to evolve to manors with luxuries, if you choose to, but you will have to feed all house with luxuries. I will publish my Stately Manor butterfly block soon.
The block supports 72 to 78 fancy residences (one less if you keep 3th bazaar), this are 6624 to 7176 people to feed, 2318 to 2511 workers assuming 35% working force, from which the butterfly needs 216 to care for herself.
For very high difficulty I add 2 firehouses, 2 architects and a bazaar. The block was stable during a not so long test, but saw some red spikes at the fire risk overlay.
