Mission's Buildings and Blocks
The map has two areas of rock in the north and northeast for which copper, gems and gold can be mined.
An industrial area having the gold and gem mines will be sited next to the northern rocks. An industrial block containing the copper mines will be placed next to the northeastern rocks.
The 25 common residences will be split into two housing blocks, the first of which is situated to the south of the gold mine area. The palace will be placed in this housing block. The second housing block will be placed to the west of the copper industrial block.
The palace block will have 15 residences and the copper housing block will have 10.
The annual 6000 food requirement will be met by two hunting lodges. Hopefully, they will provide 3000 game meat per year per lodge. They will be placed perhaps about 20 squares away from the spawning site present on the southern part of the map.
The hunting lodges and a granary will be part of a third industrial area that is sited to the south of the palace block.
600 pots in annual usage will be handled by two potters. They require about 1129 clay per year. Two clay pits will handle this. These buildings and a storage yard will be placed in the hunting block.
The 600 beer needs to be imported.
Each housing block will have one booth, bandstand and pavilion. The entertainment schools will be situated primarily in the hunting block and a few will be scattered about.
The palace block will have four Seth temples while the copper housing block will have two. Shrines will be present in various locations.
Weapons will be produced by two weaponsmiths contained in the copper mine block. Three copper mines will satisfy the requirements of the weaponsmiths as well as the export of 1000 copper per year.
There will be four gold mines and two gem mines.
The usual support buildings will be included in the five blocks or areas.
A preliminary count of the worker requirement indicates:
- 25 architects,
- 10 army recruiters,
- 24 bandstand players,
- 20 bazaar workers,
- 16 booth players,
- 16 clay diggers,
- 16 conservatory trainers,
- 30 copper miners,
- 20 dance trainers,
- 30 firemen,
- 16 gem miners,
- 48 gold miners,
- 24 granary workers,
- 12 hunters,
- 10 juggling trainers,
- 20 magistrates,
- 20 palace officials,
- 40 pavilion players,
- 16 physicians,
- 24 potters,
- 48 priests,
- 20 teachers,
- 24 storage yard workers,
- 12 taxmen,
- 10 water suppliers, and,
- 24 weapon makers.
This gives a total of 575 workers. An unemployment issue will be faced and additonal copper mines and weaponsmiths will be built to soak up the unemployment. These additional buildings will also provide funding for the construction work.
Three additional copper mines and three additional weaponsmiths will be included, requiring another 30 copper miners and 30 weapon makers.
10 police stations will also be added, requiring another 60 workers.
The overall total of workers is then 701. The unemployment rate will probably be about 10 percent. This might be an acceptable level.
Mission's Budget
The import of 600 beer and 200 papyrus annually will cost 1510 debens. Exporting 1000 coper will cover the cost of the imports. This is adequate for the budget on an ongoing basis. Gold and taxation has not been taken into account and these income will serve as a buffer.
An estimate of the construction costs include:
- 150 debens for the architect posts,
- 300 (bandstands),
- 160 (bazaars),
- 100 (booths),
- 80 (clay pits),
- 200 (conservatories),
- 900 (copper mines),
- 300 (courthouses),
- 300 (dance schools),
- 500 (festival pavilion),
- 150 (firehouses),
- 6000 (forts),
- 600 (gardens),
- 800 (gem mines),
- 1000 (gold mines),
- 500 (granaries),
- 1000 (houses),
- 50 (hunting lodges),
- 100 (juggling schools),
- 150 (mansion),
- 900 (palace),
- 1000 (pavilions),
- 100 (physicians),
- 2000 (plazas),
- 60 (police stations),
- 120 (potters),
- 150 (recruiter),
- 1200 (roads),
- 100 (roadblocks),
- 300 (scribal schools),
- 900 (shrines),
- 540 and 1800 (statues – medium and large),
- 280 (storage yards),
- 150 (tax collectors),
- 900 (temples),
- 100 (water supplies) and
- 600 (weaponsmiths).
The total cost of the above is 24,540 debens.
The cost of the trade routes are 800 debens for Thinis and 1020 debens for Nekhen. MenNefer's trade route is available later but it is not known what the cost of this route is. Additional costs include wages and festivals.
With startup funds being 6000 debens, about 18,000 debens needs to be secured.
Copper retails at 185 debens. The sale of 110 lots of copper will be sufficient for covering the costs, spreading over 3 to 5 years.
Gold and taxation will be used for funding wages, festivals and tributes.
Are there any other considerations for this design of Timna?
The next course of action will be determining how Timna will be constructed. This step is a harder one for me due to lack of gameplay experience.
