I can't see how to layout a city capable of 3000 pop in this chopped up Buhen area. (I am replaying after a hard drive crash years ago when I had just completed Byblos.) I don't remember how I did it but I obviously did since the final score is logged in my gamebook. It seems impossible to me now even with bumping up against the edges and moving the Kingdom Road. Could someone give me a clue how you squashed in a city of 3000 at Buhen?? Please, someone, save me from the alternate, having to build those pyramids at South Dashur. (ugh!)

Hi Hatchepsut,
welcome back.
I did not go into details in my description of Buhen in the Downloads, but I assume I was quite beyond 3000.

Hatchepsut,

There are several examples of Buhen in the Downloads, including Tryhard's. I expect that most of them have at least 3000 people.

My Buhen (not in the Downloads) has over 6000 people. The east bank is small but has little industry other than ostrich hunters, so it holds over half of the people (in a large block of spacious residences). The northern area (with the Kingdom road) has room for much of the industry, the temple complex, and most of the rest of the people (in a medium-sized block of fancy residences and spacious manors, plus a few other assorted houses). The southwest section has lots of meadow farms and only a few people (in spacious homesteads).

The Kingdom road doesn't have to be moved--any or all of it can be deleted (as long as there is a path, not necessarily a road, from the entry and exit points to your city). Cutting the Kingdom road may speed up land trade, since caravans will then go "cross country" instead of following the road.

By the way, there is only 1 pyramid in South Dahshur, which can be completed in well under 10 years. (It's the only "family history" mission with a bent pyramid.) In my opinion, the only negative in that mission is that it is too much like North Dahshur.

Tryhard: Thanks for alerting me to the availability of city downloads! My existing link only went direct into the Forums. Your city score overwhelmed and humbled me! I was excited to be able to see a downloaded city but had trouble getting an executable file. I did not want to bother you with that kind of stuff so I presented my problem to the Technical Forum today ("Can't Download City". Thank you for opening up the Download World, I'm alsmost there.

Brugle: Thanks so much for your concise overall description of the three cities of Buhen. How they interface with each other will be very interesting to me. The Kingdom Road info was a real shock! I always thought there was something sacred about messing around with it. Now there's lots more freedom. Whopee!

Thank you both for your kindness.
