I have a question..got a new computer, decided to start Pharaoh yet again but rather than play extra easy, I would try extra hard. I got to the 3rd city, where you farm figs and make pottery for the first time. I could NOT win on extra hard. I got the message, "beautify your city and read your mission." I did 100 times..and I replayed this mission at least 10 times, saving my funds, watching population growth, not over-doing anything but having plenty of coverage of services and entertainment but I could never win. I have learned so much from playing during the past months that now it seems so much easier to play and plan the early stages but I could not win at the hardest level on this city. I bumped back to the hard level (one below the hardest) and won immediately. What's the catch here? I didn't have a festival square. I tried having a city with and without the palace, I had plenty of gardens and plazas and even the large statues didn't get me a victoy. Im just curious..any ideas?

Perwadjyt cannot be won at Very Hard difficulty (or at Hard difficulty if Cleopatra is installed). The problem at the higher difficulty is that the required modest homesteads need more entertainment than can be obtained from just jugglers. All other "family history" missions can be won at Very Hard.

Actually, Cleopatra only creates a few (fairly minor, in my opinion) problems. The ones I remember are:
* Cleopatra cities can be loaded into Pharaoh, but the world map will be messed up, and the use of any new features (such as the new statues) may cause problems. (Pharaoh cities can be loaded into Cleopatra, which is why I am still using Pharaoh.)
* Cleopatra's city-wide entertainment "points" from each venue are 80% of those in Pharaoh. If a house has barely enough entertainment in Pharaoh, it may not have enough in Cleopatra. This is the problem in Perwadjyt, and it can show up elsewhere. For example, if my Meidum is loaded into Cleopatra then the stately manors will devolve to elegant manors. The effect of this change is often less than the effect of increasing the difficulty level.
* Culture of over 70 in Cleopatra requires a zoo. Most "family history" missions will therefore have a maximum Culture of 70. For example, if my On is loaded into Cleopatra then the Culture rating drops to 70. The 2 "family history" missions with Culture requirements over 70 require a zoo for victory and were therefore modified for Cleopatra, so if a Pharaoh version of one of those missions is loaded into Cleopatra then it cannot be won.
* Ships in Cleopatra will leave the map at the ship exit point (which may be different than the ship entry point), while ships in Pharaoh will always leave at the ship entry point. This appears to be the correction of a bug. I thought it might make a difference in my cities that have the dock quite close to the ship entry point, but I tried several of them in Cleopatra and they worked fine.
* Invaders in Cleopatra will cross gardens, while they won't in Pharaoh (unless the gardens are added after the invaders have already planned a route through them). This also appears to be the correction of a bug. As far as I know, most Pharaoh players do not depend on gardens for defense (except perhaps in contests).

I have never played Cleopatra. When I re-loaded Pharaoh onto my new computer, I did a full download but it didn't include the Cleopatra game. Pharaoh is an interesting game- lots of twists and turns.
