Topic Subject:sandbox trade/workforce priority

g'day cobbers,

I've been doing the different sandbox maps and not that long after i start one, i'll get the message that waset is now willing to trade even more granite/sandstone/whatever.
Problem being that on the world map waset doesn't want to buy any at all and on the overseer of commerce screen granite/whatever isn't available for export either. There are no requests or anything like that so i'm reluctant to think that this is happening because i've done something wrong.
Any ideas?

Anyone got any tips on setting workforce priorities?
With my seemingly mandatory labour shortage it's always entertainment that's missing out - are any industries "safer" to run without full employment?

Not sure about the first bit, but on workers.

The safest is of course to have a surplus of workers, but I assume you already know that

Industry works less fast with an incomplete number of workers.

Storage and granaries will loose the delivery and then the accept ability when short of workers.

Most other items will spawn walkers less frequently, i.e. causing a drop in efficiency and more chance of mishaps.

can you tell me precisely in which mission it was? I can check it in Editor and tell you what's the problem. I think these sandbox maps can have some flaws in scripting... It can't happen because you have done something wrong, unless you messed up the map in Editor .

On labor shortages - if you can't get out of the shortage quickly, either switch certain not-so-vital industries off for some time, or sitch the priorities every few months, so that entertainment is short only some time - and then some other services, like infrastructure, then maybe industry for some time... this way you'll have better chance to cover everything. But, of course, it is always a risk. Better get enough workers into the city!

It has happened in both sandboxes i've been playing - the one where you build 2 large obelisks and a small one, and the one where you build a sphinx and two bent pyramids.
The only difference is what the message says you can trade more of, which is always what you need to make the monument for that particular map. Not that mining it is a problem, but I would like to export it too.
Being able to export weapons would be nice too... maybe i just have to wait for a new trade route for that one though (and they take soooooo long to open).

Thanks again,

has something gone wrong with the site? All the font sizes seem to have reduced - some i can barely read now. I haven't changed any settings on my side.

Hi Spemb.. welcome to Pharaoh Heaven.

No, nothing has changed on the site. You might check on the top menu bar of Internet Explorer at the View|Text size setting.. or if you use Netscape, there are some hot keys that can change the texts size.

The sand box missions might be a bit wonky, and the one called Toshke or something like that.. that has an updated version available for download on Impressions Site.

Strange, Gustavia, I've occasionally noticed the same thing Spemb reports (the site appears to display in something like 4 pt font). It seems to occur at certain times; exiting and reentering right away doesn't matter, but I've never noticed it to immediately recur when I reenter some time later.

I don't think my Netscape settings are the variable (I don't change them, and I usually keep second/third party resets disabled). It's not a big deal though, just thought I'd let Spemb know it's not a solitary fluke.

Font is the same all the time, I haven't experienced any such changes of size.
However, yesterday when posting on another site I accidentally hit some hotkey (Netscape) and then couldn't find the correct fonts and sizes for some time . But such change would affect all displayed info, not only one site...

Re: Fonts

Same thing (almost) happened to me a couple of days ago. Only my fonts went HUGE. I posted a question about it in the Tech Forum. Gustavia’s suggestion fixed it for me. I don’t know how it got changed originally. I'm using IE.
