Hello,

Iím playing Massilia and I was wondering about how much food is needed for Grand Insulae. Iím having two 46 tile blocks with 63 GIs all together (~ 5300 ppl). A wheat farm can feed 320 people (can feed ~ 3500 ppl from the eastern small island) but thatís not enough so can I meet the required food quota with both fish (fish for ~2500 people) and wheat or do I need both (wheat and fish) to be able to feed everyone?

Thanks!

Hi Banksia, welcome to Caesar III Heaven.

A full grand insula consumes the same amount of food as a full large insula, 42 units (.42 normal cartloads) per month, but is split among 2 foods (so 21 units of each food per month). In Massilia, grand insulae usually eat wheat and fish. (If you want any 3-food houses, grand villas or palaces, they would also eat fruit.)

It is easier to produce fish in Massilia--players have built Massilia with most people eating only fish. However, it is possible to grow enough wheat so that everyone eats wheat (along with fish). [Long ago I built Happy Massilia with all houses grand insulae or luxury palaces, the second time I built Massilia.]

Okay, thank you! I think Iím trying something similar to your Happy Massilia, Brugle. Maybe some small casas in some tricky place instead, to spare me some headache haha.

Another question: how many pottery workshops can the 25 imported clay sustain (in Massilia)? Also, How many workshops are needed for x amount of houses? Like 35 2x2s?

Thanks again!

Massilia can import 40 clay per year, which is slightly more than enough for 8 pottery workshops.

Each workshop can supply enough to supply 20 houses which consume its good, except that a palace consumes twice as much wine (so only 10 palaces can be supplied by a wine workshop).
