I am making progress on a desktop program that I hope will be a playing aid - my idea is to have it read a saved game file, including current building structures and so forth, and display it, and then to allow someone to plan out how they will build on it from there -- where to put the roads, farms, raw material structures, etc., to see how it all fits. I dislike it when I build up a storage and a getting granary and all the attendant housing and THEN find out that I don't have enough farms to do wheat AND oil to feed that many, etc.
I think the program will need to represent the buildings with some sort of graphics, and I wondered about the ownership of the "Glyphy tool" graphics. I found an email for the author, supposedly, but the email I sent there came back undeliverable. It's not a big deal -- I can do my own, eventually -- but I thought if someone knew who could give permission to use them, or point me to somewhere stating that they had been made available for non-profit use, it would save me the trouble.
In case anyone's interested, my program currently reads the .SAV file (Thanks, Pecunia and Trium!) and displays the elements of the original map in reasonable colors, buildings in brown with labels, all of it 'zoomable'. I need to think about how to handle controls, etc., now, and whether it is necessary that it support the game's view of the map (with corners at the bottom and top, instead of flat sides at the bottom and top).
