Hey everybody, this is the second time in my life this has driven me crazy, originally the first time around with C3, and now again.
I'm playing the Carthage scenario, where you have taken over from a failed governor, have restless natives, and an occasional elephant platoon coming through the walls.
Problem is, the game freezes solid in August,162 BC, I think when it tried to roll over into September. No response anywhere, not on the menu, nowhere. I remembered this happening before, and swapping over to Lugdunum to win the level, but never finishing.
So this has happened now on 3 different computers and 3 different OSs: this time, an IBM NetVista with onboard 2D graphics and a custom gaming desktop with a NVIDIA 8800 card and a gig memory: running XP Pro/3 and Windows 7 beta, respectively. It was probably Windows 98 and a Diamond Monster Fusion before. So I don't think hardware is the issue, basically.
It is the 1.1 version now, and I've fiddled with all the graphics, sounds, difficulty, speed settings, etc. and it still just crashes to a halt. Even tried safe mode.
The game is installed on 2 different computers, and I've tried both by copying the savegame file between them.
Anyone else run into this? And hopefully have a solution? Lugdunum sucks, and I'm enjoying this city, and I want to avoid using some 'win scenario' cheat.
*sigh* Carthage always was a thorn in Rome's side.
