My Muse is still whispering to me during this crazy year of 2020. Maybe she thrives on world chaos? I cannot say for sure, except that she guided me to create a new mountain map without any clear idea what story it told. The map is completed now, and I will begin building a new campaign around it. Here is the link to the Gallery album of screenshots:

The tentative title right now is "The Legend of Xingshan". "Xing" means "Star" and "shan" means "mountain". When you look at the minimap of the topography you will understand how the name fits. The setting will be the late 8th century CE during the Tang Dynasty, just after the An Lushan (also called An Shi) Rebellion has ended.

I have not worked out the entire storyline yet, but I want to inject the gods and heroes into the story, similar to how I did it in my prior campaigns "Legend of the Xiong Lovers" and "Tale of the Kitchen God".

The campaign will be rated 'normal' difficulty (i.e., no time limits on missions) and will probably have at least 3 missions all taking place on the Xing mountain map. This formula seems to be popular with those of you still playing this game.

I am very early in the design but perhaps I can complete this by the end of June or early July. Meanwhile, I will give updates here and on the Emperor Facebook page. Feel free to leave comments on this thread, if you have any.

I'm making good progress on this project. This campaign will be one of my "One Map" campaigns, consisting of these 3 missions:

Mission 1 - The Sacred Lake of Xingshan, starts in 764 CE

Mission 2 - Wrath of the Water Demon, starts in 780 CE

Mission 3 - The Soothing of Shuimu, starts in 795 CE

The missions will not have time limits, and the start times of missions 2 and 3 will be spaced 15 years after the prior mission, so this should (hopefully) prevent players from replaying the same game years.

I have finished a first playthrough of mission 1. The map seems to play VERY well, and I only needed to tweak a few things on it. This might be one of the best maps I have ever made (perhaps this feeling will fade later, but for now I love it).

I've started scripting mission 2 and will test this mission soon. My only work on mission 3 is to set the goals for it.

As for the story, I only have written the campaign introduction, but the core plot elements are in my mind so it should not be too difficult to coax my muse for the words. No rush on that, I want to focus on the scripting and gameplay for now.

I have uploaded 8 new screenshots from my playtesting thus far, you may see them here:

I completed my first playtest of the 3rd mission. I'm happy to report that even after all these years I managed to come up with a new idea for scripting events. To say more would give away too much, but I hope you find it interesting.

I now need to do another complete playtest of the campaign from the beginning. I will begin that tomorrow.

Meanwhile, I added 6 new screenshots from the playtesting into the teaser album, which you can see here:

I just finished a complete replay of the campaign. It seems to be ready, as far as the map and scripting goes. Now I need to begin writing all the mission texts, and then start on the "readme" text file that I like to include in my campaigns.

I uploaded 11 new screenshots from my playtesting, viewable here:

This campaign is on track for a release later this month!

I just finished writing all the remaining text in the missions and campaign victory screen. As I had anticipated, the story came together very quickly once I began writing it. Perhaps I was blessed by the Buddhist heroine Guan Yin, even as I wrote about her!

I will begin work on the readme text file. It will probably take me a couple of days to finish it. After that, I'll be done with the project.

I can predict with convidence that this campaign will be released by the end of this week.
