I am beginning the design of a new custom campaign called "The Horsemen of Wei Qing".
This campaign will be military-oriented, using the Han-Xiongnu war of the 2nd-1st centuries BCE as its background. The story line will focus on some of the deeds of Wei Qing, who was a famous cavalry general for the Han. You can read more about him here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wei_Qing
This campaign will incorporate two new design elements:
1. The first mission will force a player to surrender to the Xiongnu and become their vassal. Then the player must defeat the Xiongnu in a battle to lift the vassal status and win the mission (other mission goals must also be met). I have always wanted to use the theme of a vassal rebelling against its overlord in a campaign.
2. Special scripting will be used to simulate a 'boycott' of trade against the player. I discovered that if I script 'trade change' events to reduce the amount of every commodity that is bought and sold from a city to the 'zero' level, then the game engine will not allow the player to place a trade station from that city (thus simulating the 'boycott'). Then later when more scripting fires to increase the amount of some or all of the commodities, the trade station for that city may be placed again (thus simulating the end of the boycott).
This campaign will be designed at the 'normal' difficulty level. It will include one 'enormous' size map, and three missions.
Missions Teasers (no time limits on any mission):
M1 - A Deceptive Vassal - starts in 141 BCE.
M2 - A Clash of Cavalry - starts in 127 BCE.
M3 - The Battle of Mobei - starts in 119 BCE.
I have begun a Gallery album of screenshots from the playtesting, which you may view here:

I anticipate a completion date for this project some time in January 2020.
As always, please feel free to leave comments here.
