Hey everyone, first post here. The zeus blocks threads have really helped out, but didnt see any on Poseidon. the science buildings are slightly different sized than the culture buildings, so i was wondering how certain blocks have been altered for poseidon.

I did a bit of an experiment to illustrate the Artificial Loop concept, and to determine the entry point of the Water Carriers. My tests show that the Fountain Exit and Entrance (return) points are chosen in a simple clockwise rotation, beginning with the 1 o'clock position on the screen for Exits and the 12 o'clock position for Entrances (returns).

South Corner (Bottom of the Screen) - Legend

Here's a snapshot of the Water Carrier Exit from the Fountain experiment. The Columns by the Fountain are blocking the 11 o'clock and 1,2,3,4 o'clock tiles. North is at the top right Corner of the Glyphy and at the top in the screen shot.

The first screen shot illustrates that the Water Carrier's Exit from the Fountain is chosen in a simple clockwise rotation, beginning at the 1 o'clock position on the screen. If any other selection criteria were used, the houses along the South East edge, bottom right in the screen shot, would not be getting any water.

The second screen shot illustrates that the Water Carrier Entrance (Return) is in the same position as the Exit. In this snapshot the Water Carriers are Exiting the Fountain at the 4 o'clock position, traversing the loop counterclockwise, and going past the 11,10,9,8,7,6,5 o'clock positions to return and Enter the Fountain at 4 o'clock position where they originally Exited from the Fountain. If they stopped short of the 4 o'clock position, some of the houses on the South West, bottom right side, would not be getting water.

It's likely that you didn't select the "Forum Directory" before you created your HTML. You can try preview mode in the forum to test your success.

If you want to experiment with thumbnail style pictures, including various Poseidon elements, take a look at Glyphy for Poseidon. You can use either the public directory, or the ztiles/ directory, or any other directory that you enter.

All of my recent articles are using Glyphy for Poseidon, that's why I upgraded it, actually. You can post the glyphs on any site that allows outside pictures, and if you're running your own site you can create your own pictographs or holler and I'll send you a base set.

The way Glyphy works is that your characters generates HTML code that points to the various pictures in some directory. This particular forum doesn't allow you to import graphics, so you're limited to whatever they happen to have in their zfiles/ directory, which is only the Zeus Pictograms right now.

Angel Jayhawk has the additional pictures available, but hasn't yet added them to the rest of the thumbnails in the local forum directory. It may be a performance issue. I know they removed the Search capability because it created too much overhead, and Glyphs would also be pretty hard on capacity and bandwidth.

i'm pretty proud of that block, first one designed by me

What seems to be the usual now, elite house is lab, podium is bibliothingy and theater is observatory.

34 houses, fully evolved gives 2040 people. thats bout 1020 workers. needs some outside appeal items though.

the granary etc need to be quite close to the entrance/exit of the block, and i usually use this layout for my supplies:

Roadblock
Maintenance Office Storehouse
Granary
Storehouse

one storehouse gets fleece, the other oil.

this block broke down a couple of times, not due to workers, but my inefficient supply of fleece, food and oil. obviously my production lines weren't brilliant, but i did manage to keep one block constantly supplied.

Experiment with Tall Obelisks between the Houses and the Road. You'll find that a row of Tall Obelisks provides all the Appeal that you need. Goods, except on the very outside corners, will be delivered across the barrier anyway, and the outside road will connect the houses to the world. If you set the Agora in the outer row, rather than internal to the block, you can reduce the length of your innerloop or, more to the point, you can tuck in another rank of houses.

Also, if you place your Agora on the outside short short edge of the block, with the Tax Office, Watch Tower, and Maintenance Office inside of the Agora, you can put the Infirmary and the Water Fountain at the opposite end, and add a couple of more ranks of houses as the Agora etc don't need coverage.

You may have something else happening, but the roadblocks, other than the inner one near the Agora, don't appear to be necessary.

Consider a slightly different Storehouse strategy. If you set BOTH of the Storehouses 16/16 Fleece/Oil, you will allow the delivermen to keep on working when either Fleece or Oil has reached its maximum. This has the effect of cutting your recovery time in half in typical scenarios.

Welcome to the world of well considered housing blocks. I really enjoy working with, and considering, various possibilities. You may be interested in some of the odd ball housing blocks that I experimented with in ZigZag Cities.

This is my standard block when there is a 8x8 pyramid available.
The pyramid will go in the middle, and provides a little appeal too.
While you build the pyramid, one house in the inner ring can't be placed, when the pyramid is finished, you can add that house.

All can evolve to townhouses = housing for 2340 people (39 houses)

Additional legend: elite = lab, podium = bibliotheke, theater = observatory.

This block and many others you can see on my site The Citadel of Poseidon (I've added yours, mattizme )

This is my favorite block.
It can Support population of up to 56*60=3360
but while building Drama school and college you must be careful that the walkers from these two buildings enter from bottom left. Even otherwise it'll work fine but ocationally
some houses can devolve due to lack of culture.
And I think this is the Largest loop possible using 2 fountains.
you can stretch this model length wise to the agora vendors
walker-length but u need to use more fountains.

Hi all,

I've started replaying Poseidon, and thought I would share the following common housing block I've been using with a fair degree of success. I'm a big fan of its comparatively compact and regular footprint.

Tax Office Podium Fountain House House House House House House Bench
House
Maintenance Office Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza
House
Roadblock Roadblock Infirmary Theater Gymnasium House Plaza
Foodmarket Plaza House

Fleecemarket Monument Plaza House

Oilmarket Plaza House
House House House House House Plaza
Bench Bench Plaza House
House
Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza Plaza House
Bench House House House House House House House House House
Bench

Legend

Some notes:
  • As per usual, the Podium is a Bibliotheke, the Elite house is a Laboratory, and the Theatre is an Observatory
  • The Gymnasium is either a University or an Inventor's workshop - I usually build these blocks in pairs, alternating between the two
  • The avenues and monument take care of of almost all the appeal requirements to evolve to townhouse (even on Olympian difficulty). The houses on the corners don't quite make it, but I've found that using tall obelisks in place of the benches is usually sufficient to get everything to townhouse. The corner near the agora may need extra help if there are e.g. granaries or warehouses in close attendance!

@ Mazeppa: You use the housing block generator http://zeus.heavengames.com/misc/zeusglyph.shtml. It has very good instructions how to use it and then post what you make in the forum.

@ Everybody else: Does anybody still have the housing blocks and articles from the Serpentinum? I remember using MarvL's blocks and his site no longer exists.
