5:22AM. Been up since 2:30AM. Tropical Storm Humberto intensified into a category 1 hurricane at landfall. It is moving inland and staying strong with some intense winds over 80mph at this time. The storm moved to the east of Houston, so no problems opening school (I can hear the kids screaming in frustration as their prayers are unanswered). Time to get dressed and go to the office. Another day.... I guess I can be glad I am not dealing with a direct hit and coordinating loss documentation and assisting in recovery efforts.

Yay, I'm not the only one in Risk Management!!!
Good luck in Real Life, Bradius. And I'll think of you when I'm dealing with University Risk Management issues in Calgary :P
And I'm sure the triplets are growing like weeds, just as kids generally do.

Jaguar, do you work for the university? They have some real interesting risk issues. You can always email me if you have any questions. I have a degree in insurance and have been in Risk Management for 23 years. I have been the past president of the Houston Chapter of the Risk and Insurance Management Society and have several professional designations (ARM and CPCU from long ago). Reckless Rodent is also a Risk Manager if memory serves me correct, so we are well represented.
One of my loves is data analysis and risk estimation. Because we are so big, it is not so difficult. Over the years I have been able to move us from mainly and insurance department to more like a multi-lines captive insurance company.
I was lucky and got my start with a training program in London just after I got out of college. It was great fun. I lived about a block from the Tower of London, which my office window looked out on. For those who live in England, I really loved living there for half a year. I got to travel a lot on the weekends. The young person's rail pass was great.
The kids keep me young. They are 3 and a half now.
